Having just returned home from Alaska with a ton of killer angling media I could not wait to show some of it off. What better way I thought to show it off then the opening thread of our new angling web forum. A fishing story should always be an enjoyable way to start conversation. Since introductions of one's self on a fishing forum almost always require a fishing story, I must be the first.
Note: I might also be seen on the board with the name Chinook : )

Myself along with Mike and Nick Braun spent a few days fishing dollys behind the sockeye beds with beads while working our way down through the Kenai river basin. A beautiful place where fishing dreams are made all summer long for what must be tens of thousands of tourists like myself with rod in hand. To be honest it was harder to decide if I wanted to fish, film or take photos.

Nearer to Soldotna we hooked up with my new friend Ed French, {scudrunner} a local resident guide whom I had been in contact with for several months. We had an idea to cut a "Pink Salmon" fishing film since even though they do get fished alot up there they dont get much credit or attention otherwise. Fish were thick and they hit everything we threw at them. The shoot was perfect to say the least. I can not wait to show off what Alaskan guides call "stupid fishing" for salmon. Big thanks to Ed for humoring our crazyness for the day. He actually invited us out again a few days later when he could take yet another day off! He must have liked us!

Silver salmon had began their run into the lower and middle sections of the kenai but our day on the river with Ed had been geared for the pink shoot while the rain had ceased. A day or 2 after the pink shoot we geared up a little heavier and fished several bank spots along the lower kenai looking for those silvers we had heard about from Ed. Mike did well on the omni-present pink salmon again with his fly rod but I was sort of weak from a cold I had got on the south end of the peninsula so I decided to chuck flys on my drift rod to make it easy. Sticking to those methods with hot flashy colors we managed several nice silvers for our effort and man, were they bright.

On the way back to Anchorage on the last morning we stopped to marvel at the view of Turn Lake in the morning sun. You never really leave this place after being here. I have been there a few times now and IM still not sure if you leave a bit of yourself there or if you bring a little bit of it home with you, but you never really leave. One last stunning view to remember the end of our adventure by.

SO here I am back in Oregon putting up the first post on our forum wondering what directions it will take as it grows. It is my hope that this forum will serve as continued learning for our many viewers who seem to always have good questions even after watching all the videos we post. I hope it will also serve to help the continued learning in fisheries conservation and management through the power of public education. Our sites offer some of the very best Northwest conservation minded angling education content and video you can get! We are always adding more videos to our exclusive library. As we move into 2009 press release's for "Small Stream Salmon Fishing's - Living The Dream Outdoors" will begin. I really am hoping to raise the bar on Northwest reality fishing video. Filming for the first 4 episodes for the 2009 season is already complete!!! So please, stop in and make a name for yourself. The journey here is just beginning.......
Note: Photos with me in them shot with care by Nick Braun : )
