Random thoughts eh? Well this is on the brain as of the present. I am building a trailer to haul around my side by side, a big tool box, a slough of gas cans, buncha O2, and Propane cylinders. But the way I have to position the UTV for easy unloading/loading makes the tongue weight on the lighter side of the scale. If any of you have ever towed an improperly loaded trailer, you know what I mean. So I am trying to just make this thing look like a decent trailer without having to mount the axle three feet from the rear of a 16 foot trailer with a 12 1/2 foot deck. Anyhoo, just brainstorming, but I am thinking I might have a weight solution, we'll see...But this is the random thought for the day. This and a 30 oz. slab of beef on a smoker.

I am having to adjust from tying steelhead flies with size to them to tying size 12-18 midges and some nymphs. Have gotten it down but can't wait until the Deschuttes starts going off so I can go back to tying normal size stuff. By the way I was fishing the Crooked river last week and there was a guy and gal planting some chinnok smolt in there. They have planted steelhead in the past as they are building that fish tunnel/ladder at the dam hoping to bring steelies and salmon back to the Crooked. I don't know it seems like a waste as the pressure from the summer bait fishing and alll the fly pressure it gets makes ti seem like a wasted effort. It is pretty wild to drive into that canyon and fish 3wts for trout and whitefish. Must have 20 hookups with quite a few to the bank with the biggest being 12" Whitey. I see thes pics of the Sandy and hear of you guys having fum with bigger fish already has me missing PDX. Good luck and tight lines to all of you.

The brain drainer for today... All the questions that can't be answered are on the noggin this day. What tells fish to enter the rivers when they do? Do other factors besides the obvious determine what a fish does that day, or are they like goldfish... Just mosey whenever, and hope to survive? I can't imagine the latter, but these fish are pretty clueless it seems, on certain occasions. The unanswered...This brain barf thread is pretty good.

Do 20 pushups evertime you get to your favorite bank spot. Before you rig, before you do anything. Just do 20 pushups. I have gone the last 7 trips to the local Creek, and done my 20, only to have fish on all the way down. Plus it makes for a good excuse to do a little pre-hike/trudge warmup. I think it helps to clear my head of whatever I brewed up on the trail hike down. Helps me anyways.

I understand that Scissors can beat Paper, and I get how Rock can beat Scissors, but there's no way Paper can beat Rock. Paper is supposed to magically "wrap around" Rock, rendering it immobile? Why the hell cant paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they attempt to take notes in class? I'll tell you why- BECAUSE PAPER CANT BEAT ANYBODY! A rock would tear that fiber up in 2 seconds. When I play rock, paper, scissors I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper, I punch them in the guts with my already clenched fist and say, "Oh whoops, I'm sorry - I thought paper would protect you, ya jerk!":p

I still have random thoughts, but they pertain mostly to things happening in my neck of te woods... Heres one...There is a Brook trout, a Rainbow, and a Cuttthraot. Why is it the Cutthroat tastes better than the Rainbow, and the Brookie better than both?! They have the same diet in the same river, and maybe vastly different kerotene dispersion patterns. Seems reasonable enough! Weird how fish work...

Because a Brook Trout is not really a trout, it's closer to a char. Tasty red meat char, thats why!

Ive caught a lot of brookies and they all seemed to have white meat and then I have a lot of trout out of the same lake(Harriet) and they all had different colored meat and then there are greenlings(sea trout) and they have all different color meat to fron blue to green to purple i think it just depends on how much meat or vegi is in their diet

HAHA, I'd never share the tortures of sitting at my desk and dealing with people who put blame on things they don't understand.
My wandering is my "happy place" I go to avoid going insane at work. :D
Current happy place is the hike from Dowty bridge to the mouth of Eagle creek.....I just cannot see any salmon in the water...maybe it's that HUGE log jam around the bend stopping everything up.

Happy Places are good places to mentally wander while you physically wander. I had one too for a few years. Most of those I couldn't drive, but it was the Callowash River. Fantastic place to loose yourself in whatever is going on around you. Random thinking, creates the most interesting ideas...And those lead to the most interesting actions... And hey, that log jam is not at all stopping fish.

Its hot and a little sweet and it will burn your lips if you leave it on them to long so you have to lick it off quick it is really good on the mesquite chicken sandwich with extra onions. Our neighbors are from mexico and she makes Mole, I got to watch her do it once it was really fun especialy when she started toasting the chilis cause it released all the oils into the air and it was like a can of mace had gone off in the house, you were coughing really bad and you could feel it in your throat. It felt really good though like when you have a good cry from cutting onions, cleans you right out.

And Tracy's seagull was accidental we were trolling in Tillamook Bay and the wieght he was using was flat cause we had poured lead in the bottum of an upsidedown soda can so it made the bait rise to the surface and a seagull came down and grabed the anchovie, we saw the pole start to dance and were thinking fish on but the pole was not going the right direction and it took a second to figure it out but then we saw the bird behind us strugling and Tracy's saying umm what do I do, so I told him just real in and I'll grab him but fortunately the hook was just over his lower bill and it slid its way down as he was getting reeled in.

Some days its nice not to be allowed an opinion anymore, but some things I read just **** me off! lol,
And IM tired of the pleasure/sin tax mantality of our state and national leaders.
They have firgured out how to tax the hell out of boating, yet the boating industry is half dead....brilliant! How long before they can add those same different taxes to your fishing pole. There is already license fee's, and marine board fee's, and boaters card fee's and insurance..and now invasive species tax?..thats enough already.... got it?.
You want more money from pleasure tax, put the damn fish back in the river you brainless twits......help the industry, not burry it..
Glad my boat is for sale....pleasure costs to much for me...

Even got the non motor guys this time........a drift boat tax?

My parents aniversary was yesterday, my moms b-day is the 30th and with christmas in ther my dad would just her one realy nice gift for christmas so he bought her a realy nice pole and reel. She did not get her liscence that year so he used it and snapped it in half so the next year he bought her one again, yup he broke it. So a third time he buys her one again, he was not allowed to touch it and it sat in the tube for near 25 years before she got a liscence again and finnally pulled it out to use. Theres a little more to the story earlier in the year when the first pole was bought my dad broke his leg and wasn't able to walk down stream with a fish so my mom had a liscence and she would take the pole after my dad hooked them to make the walk through the rappids and down steam she never had a liscence before that year either. Anyway she had asked for a pole but it was back in march when my dads leg was broke and the pole he bought was top of the line Lamiglass 3 years in a row. Funny that I see this. I just bought my son a Thompson Encore with a 375 HH barrel, 45/70 barrel and 416 Rigby barrel, because my 3 year old said he wanted to shoot an Elephant for Christmas. Too much?? Lol
Ha,ha it's never too much!

Imagine what it must be like for those working in a clean room and having to wear those suits. At least you know it is your own fart.

:D I'll have to ask my Dad about that. He occasionally wore the clean suits when he worked at Intel.

I'd take one 15 lber over three 5 lbers any day! A big pi$$ed off steelhead fights alot better than a small one.

I'll take any salmon over steelhead. Even wild Steelhead are boring in comparison and aren't worth the hype. I think steelhead being overrated is a direct result of them being easier to catch. Where are my decoys?
