The Nothing

I've been lurking here for a lil bit, so figure its about time I introduce myself.
I'm Isaac. I've been fishing for less than a year now. I grew up in the Seattle area and did a lot of trout fishing when I was a kid, but kinda gave that up once I had to start getting a license to do so. Interesting how that happens the same time to start chasing girls and driving cars...
My wife and I decided last year that it was time for us to start fishing again. She grew up in Central CA and fished with her grandparents a few times a year. So, last year on Mothers Day while we were at my parents house, I picked up my old rod, we stopped at Joes on our way back into town to get licenses and a second rod and started fishing that next day.
We spent the rest of the year re-learning how to fish. I was used to bait fishing and she was used to lure fishing. We hit up Haldeman, Hagg, Canby, and the Willamette for the most part.
I recently found myself unemployed. My wife, wonderful woman she is, suggested holding off on finding a job right away, and go fishing. I decided this was a good time for me to start reaching towards some of the bigger fish I've never caught before. Steelhead and Salmon. Sturgeon. Perhaps some surf fishing on the coast for perch and stripers even.
All of this was going to be new for me. I was bored with sitting at trout ponds catching the lil fish they stocked that week. I don't have a boat, so I managed to talk my wife into letting me get a big stick for plunking on the Columbia and Willamette. So far that has done well for me, but now I'm really want to float and drift... and 11' surf rod just won't do that too well...
Watching the videos I learned more about methods I've still yet to try, but looking forward to spending some time on the sandy learning how to fish a new way. My other rod is too light to allow me to drift, but should be sufficient to float some smaller flows.
Guess thats all for now. Looking forward to learning more about how to fish!
Here are my only two catches so far this year...
