Thread: -Amazing Wickiup Reservoir Brown Trout Fishing-

  1. Default -Amazing Wickiup Reservoir Brown Trout Fishing-

Thought you guys might enjoy these pictures. We had an epic trip up to Wickiup Reservoir last weekend and still are riding high after some great fishing! Here are some pictures of the beautiful fish that the lake holds.

Our biggest fish was 27 inches and weighed around 7 lbs! Many others were in the 24 inch range.

All fish came on jerkbaits of various brands casted at the bank.

Daniel even hooked a 22 inch rainbow on the same type of lure. There are some massive rainbows in Wickiup!

I finished off the trifecta of Wickiup Reservoir species with an aggressive Kokanee that slammed my lure.

I also lost one we estimate to be 12+ pounds that railed my lure then took line off my reel so fast it felt like a steelhead. Its one of those fish that feels like a stump when you pull up. It broke my 8lb like butter and later we saw it swim under our boat with the lure hanging out of its mouth. It was a true hog, I will be back next year to get him! We will have a Video Episode of the trip online in a few days. Now time for some Fall Chinook fishing.

That's awesome! Jerkbaits to the shore is my favorite way to pursue fish, of course most of the time when I'm doing that it's for bass. Congrats on getting a Kokanee on a jerkbait, it'd be interesting to see what the regular Kokanee fishermen think about that. BTW, did you eat it?

There are some truely gorgeous fish that you caught there.

Nope! We only kept a few of the smaller browns to eat (around 16 inches). They are some of the best eating fish! The big ones are to beautiful to kill.

Totally agree the big Trout are too beautiful to kill.

As for the jerkbaits, did you use any of the newer Rapalas, X-Raps? I'm curious as my collection of them for bass is growing. Do you actually jerk them during the retrieve or straight retrieve and let the lure action do the work?

We jerk them and strait retrieve, it just depends on what they want. I have used the x-raps and they have caught some but its very hard to beat the lucky craft lures! I also have used a few magabass ones that have worked very well.

That's pretty sweet. Big Browns aren't the easiest fish in the lake to catch, that's for sure.

Damn fellas nice work! That looks like an awesome trip to say the least, those browns are really cool looking fish. And props on the catch and release on the big guys.

Chad Thanks for being a browny lover and letting your big ones go! Sweet pics too!!

Realy large Rapala rip baits and older Luhr Jenson rips work well at times. That bow is sick!
