Thread: SSSF Welcomes Ed Fast's River Adventures

Sounds like the Oregon rivers are getting a little rain. Wish I could say the same for the OP rivers that I frequent. Once glacial rivers resemble creeks right now. Looking on the bright side there is rain forcasted for the rest of the week. I can only hope that the FORCASTS hold true, you know how that goes. One of my favorites is running at about 1,700 cfs, that sounds decent until you take into acount that just last month the river tipped 40,000 cfs after a week of rain. I am anticipating those mid-season natives sitting at the mouth, just waiting for a little more flow, and my jigs and fly's.

Can't wait. It's been raining in Puyallup for the past day. One of my fovorite March rivers has already gone from 250 to almost 1900 and going straight up. Should be fishing well by Friday and I don't work until Saturday. Gotta Love It....

I'm getting a rare opportunity to float the Alsea this weekend... hoping the rain lets up about Friday morning, and let the dinner bell ring

Teddy, the Alsea has been like the Sandy, slow, but consistent lately. Give 'em hell, as they seem to be real picky. In that body of water especially. When I do fish it, which is now less than twice a month, we have been using what we call a hippo fart. It is essentially a knockoff of a classic rag. Small, brown, black, red, and this strange lightish yellow yarn. If the bite is totally off for some reason, throw a hippo fart at 'em. We had a dozen fish turn away from a half dozen presentations, and a bunch of baits. Then my friend rigs up his sweet rag thing, and it was fish on for the rest of our bank adventure. Good luck Teddy, you too Matt. Promising outlook for sure.

Matthew, I will post a couple pics of one when I tie another set up. Perhaps I shall tonight... Anyhoo, simple, effective, and ugly as sin!

Thanks for the luck Ian I'll certainly need it.

I'm doing a fly fishing float trip for my fly fishing class so I'll probably be swinging egg patterns for most of the day, but I plan on bringing a backup rod incase I get tired of that. I'm hoping that the rain brings in some new fish

Good lord, someone actually drew a cartoon of a hippo fart! Proof that anything you want is indeed online
